9/17/2023 0 Comments Sunload sensor removal![]() We were leaving it on manual 60 and recirculate, as it was slightly more reliable in that setting, but now I am using auto again and taking it off recirculate to test that it is really fixed. I could have saved the $150 if I would have known to replace the sensor when I had the compressor, dryer, and expansion valve replaced last August. They got a pressure sensor (Santech) for $50, charged $50 to put it in and then $100 to vacuum and refill the system. Additionally, I included the diagnostics for the sunload sensor as well. I attached the diagnostics for the B278D below. This sensor converts the sunload amount to a voltage signal and signals the AC auto amp of conditions. My guess is that the sensor was not giving the correct readings and when it is cooler it gave false low pressure readings to the computer. The sunload sensor is on the dash right in front of the driver and is a photodiode. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the windshield defroster grille. Remove and retain the left and right speakers and the speaker grilles. Remove the lower right instrument panel mounting bolt. Before this I never knew if it was going to run or not, it was very sporadic, mainly did not want to run when it was cooler or raining (dangerous because the windows would fog up). Remove and retain the instrument panel storage compartment. ![]() ![]() So far this seems to have fixed it, but still testing it out. So, I took it to my mechanic yesterday and after researching more and asking them their thoughts, I had them replace the pressure sensor (located on the dryer behind the grill). ![]()
